A series of studies will be presented aimed to explore the dynamics and processes within a top management team and thereby open up the black box of demography in this line of research. It will also be discussed how CEOs shape these dynamics and the ways the processes within a TMT help in building strategic capabilities, facilitating decision making processes, and enhance various performance outcomes. This endeavor highlights our attempts to advance theory of strategic leadership and cultivating a research agenda that can be informed by integrating theories from various fields of research.
【活动三】市场营销学系学术报告NO.7:The Influence of Idealistic versus Pragmatic Mindsets on Charitable Behavior
2018/10/24时间:周三下午13:00-13:45
地点:浙大紫金港校区行政楼1102会议室

This paper examines the implication of idealistic versus pragmatic mindsets — the tradeoff between placing values and principles above practical concerns versus being practical-oriented in the context of charitable behavior. I propose and show that individuals and countries with a more idealistic (vs. pragmatic) mindset are more (vs. less) likely to engage in charitable behaviors and this effect is driven by greater intrinsic (vs. extrinsic) motivation underlying their charitable decision-making. Furthermore, consistent with the mediating role of intrinsic versus extrinsic motivation, I show that charitable appeals that emphasize the internal benefits (vs. external benefits) of charitable giving increase charitable intention among idealistic individuals but not among pragmatic individuals (vs. among pragmatic individuals but not among idealistic individuals).

讲座摘要:
In this presentation the applicability of the systems methodology in tourism economics analysis is illustrated through a series of empirical studies, such as time-varying-parameter (TVP) structural time series models for forecasting seasonal tourism flows, the TVP almost ideal demand system for destination competitiveness analysis, and the global vector autoregressive (GVAR) model for analysing the interdependencies among major tourism countries. Given the strengths of capturing the dynamics and complexity of demand systems, the systems methodology should be further applied in future tourism economics studies.
